Windows 10 - Background and Upgrade

Microsoft speaks of Windows 10 as the "last Windows" because they will release new features, driver and security updates as continuous automatic updates and thus pushed directly to the users without ever having to upgrade to a newer version (only Win 10 Pro and Enterprise users will be able to defer some updates). This means that Windows will become more like a Service. This is analogous to many of the online services we use like Google Maps, YouTube, Soundcloud etc.

New Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac

After 4 years of downtime Mac users are finally getting a new and updated Office version. The collaboration between Apple Inc. and Microsoft has led to the release of Office 2016 for Mac. The new version is available for all Office 365 subscribers and is officially supported on machines running the latest version of OS X, Yosemite. Office 2016 for Mac will also be available as a one-time purchase in September and an equal Windows version will follow later this year.
