Windows

In our daily work with our tablets and PCs most of us use a lot of right-clicks and tours through endless menus instead of using keyboard shortcuts. Shortcuts using one or more buttons on the keyboard can do a lot of the work for the user when he or she otherwise would have to switch to the mouse.
In this blog entry, we’re going to list to most useful shortcuts for common tasks in Windows.

• CTRL+C: Copy. This shortcut allows you to copy text, data files, or images into the clipboard, storing it for future use.
• CTRL+V: Paste. This shortcut pastes the data from the clipboard into the currently active window.
• CTRL+X: Cut. Similar to ‘copy’ (CTRL+C) the currently marked text or file is copied into the clipboard. However, once the once the data is pasted somewhere else, it is removed from its origin.
• CTRL+Z: Undo. This shortcut reverses the last action taken.
• CTRL+Y: Redo. This shortcut repeats the last action taken.
• CTRL+S: Save. This shortcut saves the current state of the program you’re using.
• CTRL+O: Open. This shortcut starts the ‘open’ dialogue box from where you can choose a file to open.
• CTRL+P: Print. This shortcut opens the print menu.
• CTRL+F: Search. This shortcut allows you to search for specific words within websites of text files.
• CTRL+N: New. This shortcut creates a new document in a text editor or opens a new window in the browser.

The following shortcuts are especially useful when working with text:
• CTRL+B: Bold; CTRL+U: Underline; CTRL+I: Italic. These three shortcuts can be used to format text. Simply mark the text passages you want to modify with the mouse and then press the appropriate shortcut.

You can switch between windows on the desktop using ALT+TABULATOR.

Using WINDOWSKEY+UP or WINDOWSKEY+DOWN allows you to maximize or minimize windows respectively. This shortcut also expands the current window to full size, allowing you to easily reshape it afterwards.

When you’re done with your work on the computer, you can use ALT+F4 to close all the active programs and shut down the operating system.
