Recovery media is a general term for media containing a backup of the original factory conditions as configured by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). OEM supplied recovery media used to be commonly shipped with most computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped.

All Neptun laptops with a pre-installed Windows have integrated recovery options which can be executed at anytime to reset your system to its default factory settings. You can find the recovery options in your system settings. In case your system is really broken and for example won't start after a hard crash, then you can use your recovery media to preform a factory reset. A recovery media contains all of the recovery options and tools normally on either a DVD or external storage such as an USB stick.

Since recovery disks (DVDs) are not shipped with computers anymore, because most laptops do not have optical drives now a days, we recommend you create your own recovery media or order recovery DVDs directly from the manufacturer.

Instructions on how to create your recovery media using a USB stick

A recovery drive can be created  from any system with a recovery partition on the hard drive. All Neptun laptops with a pre-installed Windows have a recovery partition. Once you have created the recovery media you can use it to reset your system to its factory settings as described in the instructions above.

Please note that

  • A factory reset will delete all your data and software that was not pre-installed
  • After a factory reset all device drivers should be checked and if necessary reinstalled/updated
  • All operating system updates will also need to be re-installed
